HUNDREDS of people turned out for this year’s Leyland Christmas Festival and cheered Love Island’s Molly-Mae Hague and partner Tommy Fury as they flicked the switch to light up the town centre.
The event was a huge success and is down to the hard work of Leyland Town Team, fronted by Martin Carlin, and South Ribble Borough Council.
The streets were packed as the festival ran through Saturday afternoon and early evening, from 1.30pm until 6.30pm.
Ahead of the big switch-on, residents and visitors enjoyed a Santa’s Grotto, fairground rides, arts and crafts stalls, food and drink kiosks, the local businesses both along Hough Lane and inside Leyland Market.
Plus, providing a wonderful accompaniment of live music all afternoon, were impressive sets from local talents Kev Jameson, Connor Banks, BINES, Outliners, Just Giorge, Phil Ireland Band, Grace Handyside, and Jennifer Addison-Jones.
The Mayor and Mayoress of South Ribble, Councillor Harry Hancock and wife Marion were also present on stage for a seasonal greeting.
The previous evening, Friday night, the Mayor had officially switched on the tree lights at Leyland Cross. The crowds here also enjoyed carols with Preston’s One Voice choir and Lostock Hall Brass Band.
