ARE you looking for your next sporting challenge, to kick-start your fitness programme, or maybe just some active family fun? Then the South Ribble TRY-athlon is the event for you!
South Ribble TRY-athlon Sports and Wellbeing Day is free of charge and offers the opportunity for all ages and abilities to get involved in active and fun events based around cycling, running, swimming and general wellbeing.
The TRY-athlon will be held in Worden Park and at Leyland Leisure Centre on Saturday 13 July from 11 am to 4 pm.
Compete with friends, family and colleagues or just challenge yourself and create your own personal triathlon event at our TRY-athlon. You can mix and match your events or choose them all!
- Swim challenges ranging from 25 m to 400 m.
- Cycling spin bike challenges or guided bike rides ranging from 1 km to 27 km for the more advanced cyclists.
- Running challenges of 2 km and 5 km or a Junior Park Run.
All events are free of charge, but participants do need to register and select the distances for their chosen TRY-athlon events.
In addition to the TRY-athlon events there will be plenty of other attractions for visitors to Worden Park on the day. Fun elements such as a balance bike limbo challenge and an inflatable obstacle course will feature, alongside Yoga, Arts and Crafts workshops and plant stalls.
For cyclists we will have a Retro Bike Expo, Bike Fix workshops, Wheels4All, bike security marking by Lancashire Police and safety demonstrations from Lancashire Fire and Rescue.
The TRY-athlon is organised by South Ribble Borough Council’s Sports Development team and all events will be run by qualified instructors.
Whatever your fitness level, everyone is welcome and to help get participants in the zone, free weekly TRY-run, TRY-cycle and TRY-swim sessions will be held from May through to July.
Councillor Mick Titherington, Deputy Leader of South Ribble Borough Council and Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Leisure said:
“I want to compliment the Sports Development Team on organising this event and I hope it is the first of many. It is a great opportunity for our residents, regardless of their level of fitness to enjoy an active and fun day.
“We want people to enjoy a more active lifestyle for their own health and wellbeing. We have wonderful parks and green links across the borough and they are there to be used and enjoyed.
“Worden Park is a terrific venue for this event, so why not come along and have a fun time. It is never too late to try something new, so whatever your fitness and ability level there will be something for everyone. Hope to see you there!”
